Joseph Paldio Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Paldio It's with deep sadness the family of Joe Paldio announce his peaceful passing on Monday, March 25 2019 at LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, ON after a courageous battle with cancer, with his nephew Mark by his side. Joe was born in Szucs, Hungary on October 23, 1924 to Joseph & Elizabeth Paldio. In 1934 with his mother and older brother William (Willie) they immigrated to Canada and settled North of Pinewood, ON in Sutherland Township where his father had started the family homestead. It is there in 1939 where his sister Elizabeth (Betty) was born. In 1941 Joe & his brother bought their first truck a 1938 Ford and started their trucking business. The work was hard and all done by hand. They purchased a Drott track loader in 1956, work became more plentiful with loading wood and road construction in the district. Joe lead a simple life. He loved the outdoors, hunting and playing fastball on the Pinewood team with his brother. When his nephews and niece were young he enjoyed spending time with them on the farm. His close bond with Mark became stronger after his brother and sister in law passed away, becoming a father figure and great friend until the end. Joe loved to work and when his nephew Mark showed interest in trucking and farming he was proud to teach him the tricks of the trade. Joe was proud to say he trucked for 70 years until his health declined and prevented him from driving any longer. Mark and Joe travelled to sunny destinations Florida, Bahamas, Las Vegas and at 85 he went out to BC to see the mountains. Joe was the chairman of the Sutherland Road Board until his passing. Joe is survived by his sister Betty Maybee, her 2 children Jim & Leah-Ann, Jim's children Cole & Olivia and nephew Mark Paldio (Maureen). He was predeceased by his parents Joseph (1972) Elizabeth (1984), brother William (1988) and sister in law Juliana (1989) and brother in law Edward (Ted) Maybee (2012). Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held Saturday June 29, 2019 11-1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home Emo,on with a private interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, ON at a later date.
