Lydia Esther Wilson Obituary

Lydia Esther Wilson was born March 30, 1936 in Carpenter Twp. at her grandfather’s house, in the same room her father was born in, and was delivered by her grandmother. Lydia passed away at the Fort Frances Hospital on Sunday October 8, 2017 after suffering a stroke a few weeks ago. Lydia was raised on the farm in Dobie Twp. and went to the one room school there, finishing her education at Barwick Consolidated. Most of her working years were spent in Grocery retail, starting at Dalseg’s in Nestor Falls, then Fairway in Emo, ending her meat cutting career at IGA in Fort Frances when it closed. She then went to work as a Personal Support Worker at Rainy Crest until her health forced her to retire. As her parents aged, Lydia made sure to check on them on a regular basis, always making sure they had all the supplies they needed, and that they were okay. Lydia was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Laura Wilson, her siblings Willard (Joyce), Jim (Eliza), Iris (Percy), Alex. She is survived by her daughter Lori, son David (Heidi) and grandchildren Trent, Miranda, Connor and brother Dan (Ellen) of Emo, sister Liz Kluk (Nick) of Waldeck, SK., sister-in-law Linda of Emo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many friends. Lydia has always done rug hooking, and a few years ago, was very involved with the local rug hooking group. As her mobility became a problem and she couldn’t go to their meetings, she still did a lot of it at home. Her other passion, especially as her health failed, was jig saw puzzles, both in her apartment and in the common room at the Golden Age Manor. You never went to visit, that she didn’t have a puzzle on the go on her table. Lydia’s biggest passion, were her children and grandchildren, even as her health failed and getting around was more difficult, she always had cookies baked for them. If you wanted to see her smile and her eyes light up, just mention them and she could tell you what there were involved in and how each of them were doing. She found real delight when the grandchildren needed some place to stay for an hour or so and that she could be of help to them. Funeral service will be held on October 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Northridge Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery. In memory of Lydia, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, ON.
