Walter Cunningham Obituary

Walter Henry Cunnigham, 78, passed away Thursday, September 15 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON. Walter was born in Clinton, ON on December 18, 1937 to Guy and Margaret Cunningham. He was raised on the family farm in Hullett Township, ON. Walter was married on September 3, 1960 to Donna Walden at Westfield, ON. He served for a time as a police officer in London, ON before purchasing a farm back in Hullett Township. Walter and Donna farmed together and raised their family until Donna passed away in 1973. Sometime later Walter was blessed by meeting Eunice Hoy and they were subsequently married on June 28, 1974. He supplemented the farm income by working at the salt mine in Goderich, ON for a while and eventually sold the farm and moved west to the Rainy River District to purchase a farm near Emo, ON. A few years later, they moved to Fort Frances and he transitioned into a building moving and construction business. He also spent many years selling farm seeds and products around Northwestern Ontario and worked for a time as a realtor. He loved the Lord and enjoyed fellowshipping at his church and spending time with family and friends. He also loved to travel and spending time out on the lake, preferably fishing. Walter is predeceased by his parents Guy and Margaret, his first wife Donna, brother Thomas, and brothers-in-law Carmen Gross and Garth Walden and Garth's wife Dianne. He is survived by his wife Eunice, sons Kelly (Tanya) and Rodney (Sara Fay) as well as grandchildren Daniel, Rachel, Hannah and Andrew. He is also survived by sisters Christena Gross and Eileen (Lloyd) McClinchey as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ila Cunningham, Earl Hoy, Paul (Ruth) Hoy, Diana (Eric) Neilsen, John (Phyllis) Hoy, Gary (Rachel) Walden, Brian (Bev) Walden, Linda Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23 at Auburn Missionary Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by a service at 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Hope Chapel Cemetery after the service. A luncheon will be served back at Auburn Missionary Church. A memorial service in Fort Frances, ON will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations to The Gideons or a charitable organization of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
