Bill Lawless ~ After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Dr. William Robert Lawless, D.V.M., passed away on Sunday, November 10th, 2013 in his 77th year. Best friend and husband of Dianne. Loving father of Kathy Lawless and Eric Andrus of Chelmsford, MA, Michael and Ann Lawless of Harriston, and Sandy Lawless of Georgetown. Also survived by step-children Rebecca and Wes Pike of Rockwood, Krista Friesen and Brad Slanker of Toronto, Pete and Colleen deBoer of Hamilton, and Kent Friesen and April Tone of Ayton. Proud Papa of Helen Claire and Evan Andrus and Tyler Lawless; Papa Bill to Evan, Amy, and Jared Pike, Harvey Slanker, Jeremy deBoer, Cayleb Peitz and Hayden Friesen. Dear brother of Dr. Kenneth and Nancy Lawless of Kingston. Also remembered by his extended family and countless friends. He is predeceased by his father Stanley Michael Lawless, mother Mildred Lawless and step-mother Helen Lawless. Bill worked for many years in his large animal veterinary practice. After that he worked with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and upon retirement, continued as a meat inspector. He was very active and involved in many community organizations, including municipal politics, hospital board, school board, Kinsmen, Big Brothers, Masonic Lodge and his church, all with the goal of creating a better place for everyone. He always enjoyed his social outings including golf, bridge club, and euchre. The family will receive friends at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a Masonic Lodge memorial service on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Mount Forest United Church on Friday, November 15th at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Sheryl Spencer officiating. Interment in Harriston Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest would be appreciated.
