Richard Thompson

We regret to announce the death of Richard Thompson on December 9, 2019 at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his children, Lynn Thompson-Sanford (late Richard) and Bruce (Elizabeth) of Kapuskasing; two grandchildren: Spencer and Kalyn; one sister-in-law, Maxine Anderson of Lindsay; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne; one sister, Elenore Wilson; and three brothers, Lloyd Thompson, Ken Thompson and Norman Anderson. Richard was a firefighter for the Town of Kapuskasing for 30 years who worked his way up the ranks to become Fire Chief for several of those years. However, this wasn’t his only career: in his youth he worked at Knowles Building Centre, was a clothing salesman, a car salesman and, after his retirement from fighting fires, became a real estate agent for Silva Terra Realty. Richard was an avid golfer and was a member of the Kapuskasing Golf Club for the past 60 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing hockey, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. He was an avid hockey fan, with the Detroit Red Wings and the Winnipeg Jets being his favourite teams, and he also enjoyed watching football, especially the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 28 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Kapuskasing Golf Club. Il laisse pour pleurer sa perte ses enfants : Lynn Thompson-Sanford (feu Richard) et Bruce (Elizabeth) de Kapuskasing; deux petits-enfants : Spencer et Kalyn; une belle-sœur, Maxine Anderson de Lindsay; ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Il fut prédécédé par son épouse, Suzanne; une sœur, Elenore Wilson; et trois frères : Lloyd Thompson, Ken Thompson et Norman Anderson. Richard a œuvré comme pompier pour la Ville de Kapuskasing pendant 30 ans, ayant gravi les échelons afin d’accéder au poste de Chef du service de pompiers pendant plusieurs années. Cependant, cela ne fut pas son unique carrière. Pendant sa jeunesse, il a travaillé pour le compte de Knowles Building Centre, fut un vendeur de vêtements, un vendeur d’autos et, après sa retraite comme pompier, il est devenu agent d’immeubles chez Silva Terra Realty. Richard était un ardent joueur de golf et membre du Club de golf de Kapuskasing pendant 60 ans. Dans ses temps de loisirs, il aimait jouer au hockey, aller à la chasse et la pêche, ainsi que passer du temps avec ses petits-enfants, qu’il adorait. Il était un fervent amateur de hockey, les Red Wings de Détroit et les Jets de Winnipeg étant ses équipes préférées. Il aimait bien regarder les parties de football, dont celles des Blue Bombers de Winnipeg en particulier. Il était membre de la Légion royale canadienne. Une célébration de la vie aura lieu le samedi 28 décembre de 13h à 17h au Club de golf de Kapuskasing. Comme témoignage de sympathie, la famille sera reconnaissante des dons à la Fondation des maladies du cœur. ©
