John Stanley Doering Killaloe, Ontario Obituary

John Stanley Doering

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John “Bud” Doering on Sunday, September 6th, 2020, during his 92nd year. The greatest joy of his life was his family. He will be missed dearly by the love of his life and partner of 66 years, Marjorie Doering (nee Wallace); his loving children: Debbie Dombroskie (Sylvester), John Doering (Lisa), Stacey Corriveau (David), James Doering (Anne), Paula Doering (Harry), Scott Doering (Julie) and Lesley Doering (Richard); his grandchildren: Terri Scheuneman (Joel), Stacey Dombroskie (Caela), James Corriveau (Melissa), Jennifer Spitznagel (Ryan), Harrison Fishenden, Natalie Doering, Lindsay Corriveau, Jamie Doering, Josie Doering, Lila Doering and John Doering; and two great-grandchildren: Jacob Scheuneman and Evelyn Spitznagel. He is predeceased by his sister Lola and his mom and dad Gertrude and Stanley, and survived by his sister Patricia Smith. Raised in Brent, Algonquin Park, Bud had a deep respect and understanding of nature and the forest. Bud and his family lived in Horton Township for 64 years. A quiet and gentle man, he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, integrity, ethics and fairness. He saw the best in people and was always there to help those in need. He deeply touched the lives of those who knew him. Bud started his forestry career in his teens and worked for many years with Gillies Brothers and Consolidated Bathurst in woods management. He served his community throughout his life and believed that he had a responsibility to give back. He served on Horton Council for 12 years, 5 of which as Reeve. He was an active member of Renfrew County Council most notably as Chairman of the 911 Committee and served on several local boards including Police Services, the Victoria Order of Nurses, and the Renfrew Victoria Hospital. He was Chair of a Citizens Committee responsible for a 25 year management plan for Algonquin Park and was President of the North Algonquin Park Resident’s Association. He was Convenor and President of Renfrew Minor Hockey for over 20 years with 5 years in the Upper Ottawa Valley League. Bud had a passion for life. Whether he was obtaining his pilot license and buying a plane in his 20s, making maple syrup with his family every year for over 60 years, spending time in the “Park” with family, building a log cabin at the family hobby farm with his sons, travelling, or building a steam run Alligator boat with a group of local men in his late 80s, Bud lived life to the fullest every day. He was a remarkable husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather and a true “gentle – man” whose legacy will live on in his family and all those whose lives he touched. He was grateful to the people who enriched his life. The Doering family would like to thank the Grace Manor (Ottawa), Caressant Care (Cobden) and the Renfrew Victoria Hospital for the compassion and care which they provided to Bud. Professional services have been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. A private celebration of Bud’s life will be held later this fall in the outdoors that he loved so dearly. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation. Online condolences, tributes and donations may be made at www.zohrfuneralhome.com
