Growing up, Nancy attended numerous schools in Toronto. In her late teens, she worked at a Farmerette Camp on the Niagara Peninsula. With other young ladies, they planted and hoed, hand-weeded, thinned, staked, picked fruit and harvested vegetables. Together, they made a big difference in the war effort by easing the labour shortage. Following her schooling in Toronto, Nancy worked in an administrative office pool at Canada Life Assurance Company, where she met and soon married Howard in September 1947. They made a home life in Oakville in 1954, raising their children and serving as respected & loved members in the congregational growth of St. Paul’s United Church. Throughout her life, Nancy loved singing in numerous choirs and choral groups and was deeply involved in her local church & UCW activities. She would frequently burst out in song or rhyme appropriate to a situation. Nancy enriched the lives of her family, friends and community with her love, sensitivity, compassion, intelligence, and wit. She always treated people with gentleness, kindness and respect. For many years, Nancy assisted patients requiring transportation to cancer care facilities in Toronto. Her enjoyment of the outdoors, particularly camping and canoeing with Howard and family or friends, took them to many interesting places across Canada. Upon their retirement, Howard and Nancy relocated to Renfrew Ontario in 1988, where it didn’t take long to establish a new sense of community with neighbours and church friends at Trinity St. Andrew’s United Church. Nancy will be remembered for her warmth and radiant smile, and her sense of style and taste. Her family will forever be grateful to all the staff at Bonnechere Manor for their thoughtfulness and exceptional care while Nancy lived there. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has occurred. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity-St. Andrew's United Church, Renfrew, on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 3 p.m. In Nancy’s memory, donations may be made to Parkinson.ca or The Bonnechere Manor Foundation via www.canadahelps.org
