Donald Weatherhead Kincardine, Ontario Obituary

Donald Weatherhead

Donald Cameron Weatherhead of Kincardine, passed peacefully away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine on Saturday, February 18, 2017, in his 83rd year. Dear son of the late Lula Weatherhead. Dear cousin of Bryan (Lisa) Walden of London, Michael (Gail) Walden, Dale (Jill) Walden all of Kincardine, Bonnie and Rick Weatherhead. Also missed by many friends at Community Living. Predeceased by his grandparents, Louis and Charlotte Weatherhead, aunts Norma Weatherhead, Grace (Eric) Walden and uncle Richard (Pearl) Weatherhead. Donald lived the first part of his life in St. Helens, later moving to Lucknow. He would often be seen riding his bike around Lucknow and was well known in the community. In 2000, at the age of 66, Donald moved to Kincardine and quickly adapted to a very social life in the community, assisted by the team at Community Living (CLKD). Donald enjoyed swimming, bowling, literacy programs and track and field. He worked for several years in Kincardine, picking up mail and running errands for businesses. He regularly attended services at the Kincardine United Church. He loved to walk and would often be seen at the car wash, talking to people as they waited their turn to use the bays. Donald’s passion was trucks; particularly vintage trucks. And he would take any opportunity that was offered to him to “go for a truck ride”. He was a regular at Kincardine’s “Drift In Cruise Nights”. His curiosity knew no limits. He constantly wanted to understand how things worked. In the past couple of years, he learned how to search the Internet for videos on driving, trucks, and basically anything that contained some mechanical content. Donald approached life with passion, a desire to get out and explore and a curiosity that taught him something new each and every day. His life was greatly enriched by the support he received from the staff at CLKD and from the congregation at Kincardine United Church. Thank you to the staff at Kincardine Hospital for the care and comfort he received in the past weeks. A funeral service will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.. Spring Interment, South-Kinloss Cemetery. Memorial donations to Community Living Kincardine District or the Kincardine United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
