Stevens, Eric Kerr, of Kincardine, at Malcolm Place on Saturday, October 4, 2008 in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Kathleen "Kaye" Stevens (née Thompson). Dear father of Janet Taylor of Toronto, Scott (Darlene) Stevens of Kincardine, William “Bill” (Jackie) Stevens of Ottawa and Mark (Nikki) Stevens of Omemee. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Tonya Taylor, Shawna Boynett, McKenzie Stevens, Grant Stevens, Tracy (Ryan) Cousineau, Travis Stevens, Trisha Stevens, Jason Stevens and Maddie Stevens and his great-grandchildren, McKenna and Logan Cousineau. Loved brother of John (Jack) (Betty) Stevens of North Bay. Predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Alma (Kerr) Stevens and his brothers, Ronald and Glen Stevens. Eric joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and trained as one of the 1st radar technicians. He was stationed in Britain for the early stages of WWII returning to Canada for flight training and obtaining his wings just prior to the war ending. He married Kathleen Thompson on June 5, 1944. Following the war he trained in the Electrical field at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. His 1st job was at Hill Clark Francis in New Liskeard Ont. While there he was an active and organizing member of the Air Cadets. He joined Ontario Hydro in New Liskeard in 1949. Eric and his family moved to Rolphton in Feb. 1956 where he worked as an electrician at the hydraulic power station - Des Joachims. While in Rolphton he ran the Tuesday evening movies at the recreation hall and sat on the local school board. In Sept. of 1960 Eric transferred to the Nuclear Power Demonstration – (NPD) facility and his family relocated to Deep River. He worked as a Control Maintainer and Senior Control Tech. At NPD until he retired in Feb. of 1981. While in Deep River his interest in flying was re-kindled – he obtained his private Pilots license and was active as an instructor with the ground school. At the same time he became an active Amateur HAM radio Operator. In June 1981 Eric and Kaye relocated to “Hometown” at Wasaga Beach Ont. where they resided until Aug 2000 at which time they moved to Malcolm Place Retirement Residence in Kincardine. Eric’s hobbies and interests included photography, flying and aircraft, Ham Radio and computers. His favourtie sounds were the bagpipes and “The call of the Loon.” Visitation at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, 757 Princes Street, Kincardine, ON N2Z 1Z5, 519-396-2701, on Tuesday, October 7, from 12:30 until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Victor Gauci officiating. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society or the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
