Glencairn Urquhart Kincardine, Ontario Obituary

Glencairn Urquhart

It is with deep sadness that we part with our wonderful father, husband, teacher, friend and mentor Glencairn “Glen” Herbert Urquhart, of Kincardine, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, on Monday, October 25, 2010 in his 85th year. Left to mourn his absence are his beloved wife, Susan Henry (née Enzensberger), his children, Laura Urquhart (Alan Hodge) of Cambridge, John Urquhart of Kitchener, James Urquhart of Kitchener, Scott Urquhart of Cambridge, Cameron Urquhart (Gwen Hiles) of Orillia, Tim (Lucy) Urquhart of Kitchener and Carolyn Urquhart of Denman Island, British Columbia. He will be sadly missed by 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous friends and associates. Also sadly missed by Susan’s daughter Patricia and her son Patrick of Ottawa. He is survived by his first wife Frances Urquhart of Kitchener. He was best known for his gorgeous paintings depicting all the corners of the earth. In particular the seas, lakes and waterways so close to his heart. He built many sailboats and sailed those beloved waves, free under billowing clouds and sails. He also had a passion for planes and flying and was thrilled to fly a “Tiger Moth” recently. On September 20, 2009 he received first prize at the Department of National Defense for the Centennial of Flight Art Contest, in Ottawa for a painting depicting a scene from WW I. Glen was gifted in portraiture, illustration, and landscapes, rarely without a brush, pencil, or piece of wood in his capable hands. He played tennis and badminton with gusto and had the creativity and strength to build almost anything from furniture to houses. Glen loved to carve. Every Christmas his loved ones were thrilled to receive a different hand-carved and painted duck from him. An ingenious man with heart of gold, he was the ultimate gentleman, in every sense of the word, with a wonderful sense of humor. Many thanks to the Doctors, nurses, friends and family who have supported Glen over the last 3 years during his courageous battle with cancer. Please join us for a celebration of his life and help us share our happy memories at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, 757 Princes Street, Kincardine, ON N2Z 1Z5, 519-396-2701, on Saturday, November 13 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Susan Samuel officiating. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Southwest Community Care Access Centre (Grey-Bruce) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
