Harry Jacobi Obituary

JACOBI, Harry- The world has lost a good man, who even in the end, when asked how he was, responded with great gusto “Perfect in every way.” Harry Keith Jacobi passed away on Wednesday, May 13th, 2015, just shy of his 82nd birthday. Loving husband and adored companion to Shirley (née Chapman) for the past 17 years. #1 Coach & Cheerleader, mentor and dearly loved Dad to Jacquie, Rob and Jennifer. Teasing “Grampa Harry” to Madlyn, Jackson, Tristan, Jacob and Hudson who loved nothing more as wee ones than being thrown in the back of Grampa’s pick-up truck “to take the little piggies to market”. Impressed father-in-law of Peter, Linda and Markham of whom Dad often raised a glass to in their honour, thanking them for marrying his children. Big and dear brother to John (June) and Bryce (Barb) of whom Harry spoke of often with laughter induced tears, reliving favourite tales of three brothers growing up on the family farm in Hensall along with their loving parents Harvey and Winona. Harry graduated from the Ontario Agriculture College in Guelph in 1957 and was a proud and loyal Aggie. He went on to obtain his teaching degree from the University of Toronto and dedicated his career to teaching high school science starting at Orangeville D.S.S. and retiring at John F. Ross C.V.I. after 31 years. He loved teaching and revelled in coaching many teams over the years including football, gymnastics, badminton and curling with his contribution to School Boy Curling being one of his proudest feats. Along with Penny (Jacobi-Warren) he raised their children, sharing summer long camping trips, sailing, cross country skiing and many family celebrations with the Bright, Hilton and Jacobi families. In later years Harry and Shirley, his high-school sweetheart, reunited and enjoyed married life living in Arizona, England and finally settling in Ripley back to his beloved farm country where he could drive for miles looking at the cows and watching the corn grow. Harry- a man known for his positive outlook, great sense of humour and epic practical jokes would love to know that his friends and family were gathering to throw a party in his honour, laughing and sharing happy memories. Harry’s life will be celebrated with friends and family at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home in Kincardine. Visitation to take place on Monday, May 18, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Loretta Jauzarens officiating. Interment, Ripley Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Salvation Army would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
