Lila Munro Kincardine, Ontario Obituary

Lila Munro

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Lila who passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13 at the age of 91. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Heather Smith, Jackie Clermont, Barbara Rastow, her sons-in-law Mike Smith, Jamie Young, Steve Rastow, her grandchildren Andrew, Cindy, Christopher, Kelly, Chantelle, Jamie, Kristina, Peter and by fourteen great-grandchildren. Lila was born on May 3, 1917, the eldest of two children of Charles and Nellie Tennian in Black Donald Mines Renfrew County, Ontario. She grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, completing her bachelor's degree in French at Sacred Heart College. In 1937 she travelled to France where she earned a Degree in Civilization at Sorbonne University in Paris. While travelling across the Atlantic on the Cunard White Star "Ausonia", she met her future husband, Murray Munro of Kincardine, who was travelling with friends in order to play hockey in Bristol England. After graduating, she returned to Canada where she taught at a rural school in Rush Lake Saskatchewan. Lila and Murray Munro were married in 1942 and resided in Brampton Ontario, and both spent many weekends and summers in Kincardine at their cottage at Cedar Terraces. Lila was a beautiful, caring, intelligent woman who cared deeply for her family, who loved to read, paint, and in later years travel. At the age of 69 she travelled around the world with her daughter Heather. She always said one of the favourite places she visited was Inner Mongolia. Lila was predeceased by her brother Jack Tennian in 1942 and by her husband Murray in July 18, 1999. Lila's family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Don Smith, Kate Kincaid, Director of Patient Care, and the palliative care nurses of Kincardine Hospital, for their wonderful care. Special thanks also to Diane Cameron and the staff of Tiverton Park Manor. A memorial service for family and friends to celebrate Lila's life will be held at Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Kenneth Craig officiating. Interment, Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Paddy Walker Heritage Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
