Ralph McKay Obituary

With great sadness the family of Ralph Corbet McKay announces his sudden passing on Saturday, June 1st 2013. Beloved husband of Marion (Miller) McKay, they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Ralph was born on September 25th, 1928 in Kincardine to the late Belle Corbet and Alexander McKay. Father of Dean (Claire) McKay, John (Kathy (deceased)) McKay, Paul (Heather) McKay, Mary Jane (Peter) Tenhaaf, Marjorie (Claude) Deslauriers. ‘Papa’ will be greatly missed by grandchildren Scott, Tim, Meredith, Andrew, Garett, Alex, Julianne, Suzanne, Patrick, and great grandchildren Andrew, Henry, Ella, Jackson and Layla. Ralph is survived by his sister Doris Remington of Wingham and brother-in-law Cliff Buckingham of Kincardine. Predeceased by his sisters Margaret Cox, Eleanor Buckingham, Isabelle Stone and Elizabeth Savage. He enjoyed a very successful career with Bell Canada in Montreal, which culminated in a position of vice president. Ralph and Marion lived in Montreal for 32 years, where they raised their family. Before returning to Kincardine, Ralph and Marion spent the first 10 years of their retirement in Vermont. A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, Ralph was a founding member and Elder at St. Laurent Presbyterian Church in Montreal, where he served as Clerk of Session and, more recently, an Elder at Knox Presbyterian Church in Kincardine. Ralph was very active in the community, serving as Drum Major with the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band and a contributor and sponsor to a number of causes, including The Parkinson’s Society; The Canadian Cancer Society; The Walker House; and the South Bruce Grey Health Centre Kincardine. An avid gardener, Ralph received many ribbons for his prized potatoes and tomatoes which, he enthusiastically shared with his many friends and family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4th at Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5th. Rev. Jim Weir officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kincardine Hospital Foundation, Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band or Community Living-Kincardine & District (Capital Campaign). Interment, Kincardine Cemetery.
