Edward Nowak Kitchener Obituary

Edward Nowak

Nowak, Edward Frank It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of the best husbands, fathers and grandfathers that any family could be blessed with. Edward Frank Nowak, at the age of 85, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, went home peacefully to be with his beloved God and Father on Good Friday, April 14th at 10:00 p.m. while surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband and best friend of Pauline (nee Powell). In September 2017 they would have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. They resided in Morningside Retirement Village in New Hamburg for 14 years. Loving and proud father of Brian (Christine, nee Quinn), Cindy Huemiller (Paul), Paula Pagett (Rick), Chris Mayberry (Ray), and Greg. Cherished grandfather of Craig, Scott and Brad Nowak, Michael, Sarah and Ed Huemiller, Jeff, Becky, Angela, Dan, Mark and Tim Pagett, and Erin, Tommy, Ben and John Mayberry. Great-Grandfather of Emily, Sophie, Isla, Vivian and Annie. Survived by his brothers Ted and Frank, his sister Anne, and his brother-in-law Robert Powell. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Anna, brothers Joe, Walter Jr., and Stanley, and sisters Adella and Mary. He started his career in the meat packing business at the age of 16 at Kitchener Packers Meat Packing Co. which was founded by his father, working his way up to plant superintendent. From there he went to Burns Meats as plant superintendent until it closed. He finished his career as plant manager at Golden Valley Farms in Arthur. Edward was a member of the Cursillo Movement, and the Holy Name Society and choir of St. Agnes Parish. He worked on four COR youth retreats and was a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid fan of curling, horseshoes and cards. He also loved the 40 years he spent with his family and friends at the cottage on Belwood Lake. Edward's family would like to sincerely thank all of the nurses and staff at Grand River Hospital and CCAC for their excellent care and compassion. Extra special thanks go to the staff at Innisfree House who made the last days of his life as comfortable and peaceful as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Carmel of St. Joseph, Blessed Sacrament Parish, or Innisfree House would be greatly appreciated. Visitation will take place from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 Laurentian Drive, Kitchener, with Father Larry Parent officiating. The family asks that you join them for refreshments in the church hall following the Mass. Interment for family members only will follow at Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg.
