Rudolph Henry Wiebe Obituary

Rudolph Henry Wiebe: August 10, 1947 – November 11, 2020. Rudy was born and raised in Leamington, Ontario, the same town where Marlene, his wife, also grew up. He graduated from the University of Windsor with a B.Sc., and began his working career teaching Science at Leamington District Secondary School. He then pursued an M.Div. at Toronto Baptist Seminary (TBS) while at the same time pastoring Faith Baptist Church in Oakville for four years. In 1975 he was asked to become a teacher at TBS and while teaching, he worked for the next eleven years on a Masters of Arts in Near Eastern studies. After serving as registrar, teaching Biblical languages and books of the Bible for twenty-nine years, he and Marlene took on a new adventure. They joined the ministry of Global Scholars Canada and spent the next ten years in Nigeria. Rudy taught in the Christian Religious Studies program at a Federal College of Education and found great delight in writing and editing several textbooks. Gardening was one of Rudy’s longstanding pastimes. He also enjoyed baking zwiebach (a Mennonite bun) and canning pears grown in their own backyard. He enjoyed the challenge of fixing any and every problem around the house. Rudy cherished outings with the grandchildren to the Science Centre, Toronto Island, and the Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He loved to read missionary stories to inspire the grandchildren. Rudy was a loving husband to Marlene; father to Carla (Tim), Melissa (Jason), and Laura; and Papa to Sarah, Nathan, Naomi, and Amayah. He was a blessing in the lives of his six beloved siblings and their families, many precious cousins, relatives, and friends from near and far. In recent days, we have been overwhelmed by the numerous heartfelt tributes we have received honoring Rudy’s life and ministry. His genuine concern for the welfare of others was expressed by many, to whom he and Marlene had the privilege of showing hospitality and support in particular times of need. Though we mourn, “We do not grieve as those who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13b). We will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Rudy Wiebe on Sunday, November 22nd, 2020 at 2:00 PM. We would love for you to join us as we remember our loved one. Due to current restrictions, we will be livestreaming this event and in-person guests will be by invite only.
