Obituary for Danny Nykoluk

We sadly announce Danny's passing on July 29, 2016, surrounded by family, at Thortonview Nursing Home in Oshawa at the age of 83. Beloved Husband of Lois (nee Harrison) for 40 years.
Danny was born in Scarborough to Andrew and Julia Nykoluk, he is predeceased by sister Jenny Akehurst and survived by his brother Mike (and wife Maria(Dolly)), member of AHL Hall of Fame.
Dearly beloved by; nieces and nephews Stephen, Suzanne and Jonathan, grand nieces Eva and Maia in Germany, and his dear cousin Marion Metronetz of Toronto.
Dearly beloved by his step children Ellen Schmelzle in Birmingham, and Dean Howse and Danny Howse both in Oshawa.
Adored by his Grandchildren;(Ellen's) Chris in Daly City, Derek in Portland, Evan in Frankland, and Taylor in Portland;(Dean's) William in Oshawa, Monika in Vancouver, and Martin in Oshawa;(Danny's) Jessica in Toronto.
Danny was a Toronto Argonauts Football offensive tackle whose career spanned 16 full seasons from 1955, 1957-70. He retired in 1970, then was needed to help the team and played part of the year in 1971, with his last game being the 1971 Grey Cup. Danny was honored by being chosen as a member of the 50 year All Star Argo team, as well as the All Time Ever Argo team. He is one of only 5 Argos to have their number (60) retired in 105 years. He also coached football at York University and was 1st Assistant Coach of Hamilton Tigercats under Head Coaches George Dixon, then Bob Shaw. Danny and brother Mike have had both of their numbers retired in different professional sports.
After he retired, Danny took up building custom homes and doing renovations. He loved golf, entertaining his grandchildren with his stories and being involved with their many activities.
