David Barton Obituary

Dave Barton, age 52, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10th at Ajax Pickering Hospital with his loved ones surrounding him. Dave is survived by his wife and best friend Angela (née Anstey), his children Thomas, Hannah, Katy (mother Nicole), Maxx and Isabella, his father Norman (predeceased by his mother Aurelia), his brothers Andrew (Michelle) and Gord (Robin), nieces Danielle, Heather, Ashley, and Julia, and nephew Calum. He will be missed forever by his in-laws Garry and Joanne Anstey, brothers-in-law Garry (Michelle) Anstey, Brian (Janice) Anstey, sister-in-law Gayle (Paul) Foxwell, and many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. Dave had a passion for music, both as a musician and a fan. His biggest influences included Alex Lifeson of Rush, and Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen. Dave’s own signature sound was an integral part of a variety of bands with whom he played with over the years, most notably Headrush. His love of classic muscle cars was well known, particularly his lovingly restored Plymouth Barracudas: “The Pumpkin” and “The Limey”. “Bart” was an avid golfer and being on the golf course with friends always made him grin from ear to ear. He especially relished the challenge of going for impossible shots that would elicit disbelief and awe from his many golfing buddies. Dave had a unique and rare ability to put those around him at ease, whether having just met them or if they were a lifelong friend. His kindness, self-deprecating sense of humour and sometimes cheeky way of viewing the world even under challenging conditions drew people to him – his presence truly elevated those around him and made the world a better place. Dave had a long and distinguished career at Ontario Hydro and Ontario Power Generation as a Field Operator, Supervising Nuclear Operator and an Authorized Nuclear Operator. He was well known for his ability to step up and be a calm and cool voice of reason when things were not going as planned. He was one of the ANOs people tried to emulate in the simulator, with his composed and steady approach to working through problems. He was also one of the longest serving union stewards, working to help his fellow union members when they had problems at or outside work that were affecting their job performance. He will be deeply missed by everybody who had the honour and privilege of having been in his life. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 725 Conlin Rd., Whitby (SW corner of Thickson & Conlin).
