Summers, Joan May 7, 1929 – November 25, 2019 Joan Summers passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital on November 25, 2019 at the age of 90. Beloved wife to John Summers for 65 years. Loving mother to Keith and Lynn (Andre) Decoene. Grandmother to Stephan (Ashley) and Sarah (Chris). Great-grandmother to Landon and Autumn. Joan was an avid painter; spending most of her time painting different and colorful floral pieces. She could often be found outside bird watching, especially for her favorite, the Cardinal. She had a love of games and could often be found deep in a cross word or challenging you to a game of Scrabble or Cribbage. Joan met her husband John in the summer of 1950. They fell in love, got married and had their two children. Later in life they decided to immigrate from England to Canada for a new life and better opportunity. Joan was very family oriented and loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She stayed true to her British heritage and was always loyal to the Monarchy. She was loved and will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. A visitation will be held at the Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill Street South, Newcastle Ontario, L1B 1C6 on Saturday, January 4, 2019 from 2:00-3:30pm, followed by a service at 3:30pm. A reception will be held at the family's home following the service. Donations can me made to the Humane Society.
