Maria de Witt

Maria “Miep” de Witt (Petri) born April 23rd 1930 in Den Haag, Holland. Left to be with her Lord on April 9, 2019. Peacefully at home, in Orono Ontario, surrounded by her family and friends after a brief battle with cancer. Dear daughter of Willem and Petronella Petri. Sister of the late Jan Jacob Petri and late Willem Petri and survived by his wife, dear sister in law Mieke. Beloved wife and farming partner of the late Aeilko de Witt to whom she was married for 62 years. Loving mother of John (Lorna) de Witt, Peggy (Ken Hudson) de Witt, Mary Ann (Arnold) Muizelaar, Audrey (Jack) Strikwerda and Bert (Diane) de Witt. Fun loving Granny to 18 grandchildren. Playful Granny to 33 great grandchildren with one predeceased. With energy, love and quiet determination visited the elderly and volunteered for numerous church activities and organizations to the end. Maria served and trusted her Lord faithfully all her life with a desire for everyone to know Jesus’ love. The Little Lady who never grew old will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. Newcastle (905-987-3964) on Friday, April 12th, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the TRULLS ROAD FREE METHODIST CHURCH, 2301 Trulls Rd. Courtice (905-436-2300) on Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. In memory of Maria, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Lakeridge Health – Cancer Care.
