Beverly Anne Bicknell Obituary

Bicknell, Beverly Anne “Bobbie” (nee Banke) – Surrounded by her loving family Bobbie passed away peacefully at home in Whitby on Wednesday February 9, 2011, in her 77th year. Beloved wife & best friend of Bert (“Ben”). Dear mother of Terri Bicknell-Potts (the late James Potts), Debbie Martin (Jim), and Andy (Nancy). Cherished grandmother of Samantha, Trevor, Amy, Stacey, Ben and Emily. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, extended family and many friends. Bobbie grew up in Toronto and attended the University of Toronto (Member of the Tri-Delta Fraternity), initially in physical and occupational therapy, then graduated as an elementary school teacher in 1956. She enjoyed teaching kindergarten in Oshawa (Harmony Road Public School) for several years prior to devoting her time to her family and volunteering (I.O.D.E. and hospitals in Windsor, Oshawa and Whitby, Drag Lake Cottagers Association). She lived a full and active life with a passion for her family, painting, travel, and sports. She spent many years enjoying her favourite pastime of skiing (longtime member of Oshawa Ski Club), golf, tennis, boating and cottaging. (Drag Lake, Haliburton) and wintering at La Casa in North Port, Florida. True to her long life spirit of strength and determination, she bravely fought ovarian cancer until the end. We wish to express our sincerest gratitude to so many caregivers who made Bobbie’s journey through her illness comfortable and her passing peaceful at home. In particular Dr. Freedman and Dr. Forbes as well as the teams at Oncology, R.S. McLaughlin Cancer Centre (Laurie), Chemotherapy, Palliative, CCAC particularly Brenda, and her occupational therapist Mrs. Burke. Friends and family are invited to Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa for visitation on Friday February 11th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday February 12th at 2 p.m. If desired, donations in Bobbie’s memory may be made to the Lakeridge Health Cancer Centre or the Rotary Foundation.
