Evans, Edith Caroline (nee Meadows) May20, 1914 – May 25, 2009 After a valiant struggle with COPD, Carol died peacefully in her 96th year, on Monday May 25 at Thorntonview Nursing Home, Oshawa. Beloved wife of the late Bill (2004). Loving mother of Cathy Evans (Ted Baker) and grandmother to Celine and Evelyne Baker. Loving aunt to Ruth Barker and Bob Meadows. Carol was born in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. Her parents then moved back to Cobourg, Ontario where she lived until she trained to be a Registered Nurse. She graduated from Oshawa General Hospital in 1937. She worked as a nurse in one of the munition factories in Ajax during the war and later she worked in the infirmary in General Motors, and then as a private nurse. She and Bill owned and operated Evans’ Grocery Store on Jarvis Street for 40 years. Grateful thanks to the kind and compassionate staff at Thorntonview Nursing Home in Oshawa. Special thanks to the staff who was there with Mom on her last evening. They are to be commended for their understanding, love and support during Mom’s time with them. Friends will be received at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street, East, Oshawa on Sunday May 31st from 2pm until time of the Memorial Service in the Chapel at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
