Garason, Francziszek “Frank” – Passed away Peacefully On Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Reachview Nursing Home, Uxbridge. Frank was celebrating his 100th year. Beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Mazurkiewicz). Much loved father of Stan Garason & his wife Mary and Loretta Mooney and her husband Mike. Cherished grandfather of Crystal McCausland and her husband Dallas, Matthew Garason, Thereasa Garason, Joanne Mooney and Patrick Mooney. Frank was the youngest of 9 siblings and was predeceased by all of his sisters and brothers. Frank was born on October 1, 1913 in Belz, Poland. Francziszek served throughout the entire war from 1939-1945. He was an Officer on the front line in Poland the day the war began and defended Warsaw as it was being attacked. After three months of active duty Frank was captured and held as a prisoner of war from 1939-1945. In 2007, Francziszek was awarded Honourary Captain status by the Polish Government in recognition of his contributions during WWII. Francziszek was a proud and active member of the General Sikorski Polish Veteran’s Association, having served on their Board of Directors as Secretary. He was very devoted to the church throughout his life. Frank and Helen were married for 59 years and shared a wonderful life. He worked as a designer at Pedlar People Limited until his retirement in 1978. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Francziszek was extremely proud of his Polish heritage. Friends may call at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Monday May 27th for visitation from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Prayers will be at 8pm Monday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church (Olive and Central Park) on Tuesday May 28th at 10am. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby.
