Gladys Constance Patricia Burke Wilson

Gladys Constance Burke Wilson - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Burke Wilson on November 20, 2020 peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. Gladys was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to the late Madeline (Johnston) Burke and Jay Burke, and was raised in Pictou, Nova Scotia with her sisters Margy Somers, and the late Jean and Olding. Beloved mother of Lisa Freeman, Catharine Slingerland, Madelyn Lowry, and the late Deborah Wells; Cherished Grandmother of Sterling Slingerland, Kaden Armitage, Burke Slingerland, Charlotte Freeman, Andrew and Lachlan. Fabulous Great- Grandmother of Lily Slingerland and Sage Slingerland. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews from across Canada. Born into a family of down east fiddlers, music was a passion that brought her immense pleasure her whole life; and pleasure to those who heard her play. Mum had many interests; she was an avid reader and a great storyteller. Her garden was her pride and joy, as was her family and she made every gathering extra special by bringing her own unique touch to things. A long-time resident of Oshawa, she was the former manageress of the Queen’s Hotel. Mum met the many challenges life placed in her path with a strong resolve and an even stronger faith; she lived life on her own terms and balanced it by helping any and all who needed it; she truly lived by the words that she often reminded us of: Any kindness that I can show to any man, let me do it now, let me not defer it, let me not neglect it; for I shall not pass this way again. Private family visitation at the Armstrong Funeral Home with Private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, Oshawa, on Friday November 27th at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to St. Gregory’s Building Fund, 194 Simcoe St. N, Oshawa, ON L1G 4S9. Interment Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa. To share an online condolence please visit www.armstrongfh.ca Rest in Peace, our Beloved Mum.
