Jacqueline Smith

A Life Well Lived Jacqueline (Jackie) Margaret Smith May 13 1932 – November 12 2012 On Friday Nov 16th Jackie left us after 80 wonderful years of making the world around her a friendlier and more loving place. Born in Markdale Ontario, Jackie was raised in a family of 10 with girls outnumbering the boys 5 – 3. Through the fun times of being a teenager she married her sweetheart John (Beaner) Smith and they proceeded to have a wonderful life together with their three children. One of Jackie’s last comments was that her best memory was the birth of her 3 kids Jamie, Lindsay and Nicole. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband “Beaner.” Friends and family were key to how Jackie lived her life. Her “posse” of girlfriends, together for over 65 years enjoyed their friendships to the fullest. One of their last “girl’s nights” was travelling by limo to see the play War Horse. Jackie was an active member of Tyrone United Church having made Enniskillen her home for over 20 years. Having lived on Long Sault Rd. for many years she loved her backyard waterfall, the lush greenery of the property and the peaceful feeling that living in the country offered. She, her brothers and sisters and her children all shared one common gift: the love of food. So many of the memories Jackie took with her were of family functions around a dinner table. From catering in her early years to baking for the church, Jackie adored making food and seeing loved ones enjoying eating it. (especially her grandchildren) With heavy heart she leaves behind her children and their partners Jamie Coutu and Nik, Lindsay Smith and Wendy and Nicole Laframboise and her husband Paul and her well loved grandchildren, Aaron, Devon, Blair, Cullen, Mitchell, Sydney and Brette. Jackie also leaves behind, her siblings, Blanche Braund, Ileen Elliott, Betty Stire and inlaws, Ellen Sarnovsky , Jimmy Smith, Joan Smith, Geoff Smith and Lorraine Smith. She was preceded in death by siblings, Merle, Floyd, Willis (Ron) Clarke and Hannah Smith. Her immediate family would ask that in lieu of anguish that you honor Jackie’s memory by smiling through the pain, doting upon your children, tolerating someone difficult, making amends, being a better friend and most importantly – turning to someone you love, right now, and telling them so. These are the qualities that attracted so many people into Jackie’s life. Many thanks to the 7th floor staff at Lakeridge hospital; Dr Lynnette and nurses Sam, Calla, Liz and Ashley. All of you made her final days not only comfortable but easier with your care and compassion. In line with the Smith families love of food, and in support of Jackies’s primary care health facility,in lieu of flowers we would ask you donate to the Oshawa Community Health Ctr. program to feed hungry children. This is a local program and the monies raised will be invested in our community. It will touch our hearts knowing that less fortunate families will have food on the table with Jackie’s spirit smiling.
