Joan Estelle Schell

SCHELL, Joan Estelle (nee Hicks) – With grace and dignity, Joan passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at The Village of Taunton Mills, Whitby in her 91st year. Joan was the loving wife for 69 years of Arn Schell, and devoted mother to Connie Picken (Al), Wes Schell and Bev Rancier (Jim). Proud grandma to Greg Picken (Kim), Steve Picken (Tina), Bryan Rancier (Kortney), James Rancier, James Larmer (Stephanie), Chelsea Hill (Luke), and Kaitlin Conroy (Wes). Joan was thrilled to be special great grandma to Jaina, Grayson, Bryar, Raelyn, Amelia, Jillian, Ryker, Coraline, Benjamin and Tessa. Joan was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Estelle Hicks, sister Margaret Henderson Sheppard (Jack) and brother Frank Hicks (Bernice). Joan loved raising and supporting her family, teaching, spending time at the cottage, traveling and playing cards. Joan will be greatly missed by extended family members and friends. The Schell family is so very grateful for the wonderful care that Mom received from all the staff at the Village of Taunton Mills, Egerton Community. Friends may call at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Friday March 16th from 12pm. A funeral celebration will take place at 1pm. Cremation. Memorial donations to the Terry Fox Foundation or the charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by Joan’s family.
