John Alexander Gillis Oshawa, Ontario Obituary

John Alexander Gillis

Gillis, John Alexander (Alex) Alex passed peacefully on September 19, 2020 at Mount Sinai Hospital, in his 33rd year after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his grandmother, Wendy Archibald, mother Cathy Gillis, sister Rebecca Gillis (Karl Brown) and his nephew Logan Brown along with many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Alex had a special place in his heart for his girlfriend Diana Cerovich. Alex is predeceased by his father John Gillis, his grandfather Ronald Archibald and Nova Scotia grandparents John A. and Marion Gillis. Alex had an infectious belly laugh that would bring a smile to everyone’s face. He shared his Dad's love of music, playing both drums and guitar. Alex felt a very strong connection to his Cape Breton’s roots. He would have loved one more trip down east to spend time with family and friends. Alex had a group of close, long term friends that meant the world to him and were of great comfort over the last year. He enjoyed his time with his family and connecting with his cousins. Alex had a deep appreciation for his Uncle Phil, Aunt Rose and Owen who graciously opened their home to him over the last year while he was in treatment. Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation for Alex’s medical team lead by Dr. Abdul Razak at Mount Sinai Hospital. This is an outstanding team of professionals that are compassionate, sincere and caring. Alex was very fortunate to have you as his team. He could not have received better care anywhere. Donation to Canadian Cancer Society Celebration of Life at a later date as Covid permits. Online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.ca
