Czajkowski, Jozef – Passed away peacefully at Reachview Nursing Home in Uxbridge on Thursday June 9, 2011, in his 88th year. Loving husband of Audrey Czajkowski (nee Mitchell). Dear father of Anthony Czajkowski & his wife Diane of Courtice. Grandpa will be truly missed by his grandchildren Jodi (Jason), Darryl and Todd (Sherry) and by his great grandchildren Zachary, Nathan , Hailey, Ben and Madlyn. Predeceased by his brothers Alfons Czajowski and Frank Czajkowski of Torun, Poland. He will also be truly missed by loving friends in Poland, England and Holland. Jozef was born in Torun, Poland on March 14, 1924. He served in the Polish Armed Forces in WWII, and was demobilized to England in 1945. Married Audrey Mitchell in 1948. They came to Canada in 1955 and Jozef worked in General Motors for 32 years. He became involved with the Polish community in Oshawa. Jozef was a member of Branch 21 Polish Alliance of Canada, Polish Boy Scouts of Oshawa – Scout Leader responsible for the continuation of the Polish Scout movement in Oshawa, Member of the Executive Branch of Polish Boy Scouts in Toronto, Head Scout Master of Polish Scout Camp in Kaszuby, ON for many years. He was very active in the Polish Scouts Association all during his lifetime until his illness. Jozef was a member and very active in St. Hedwig’s Polish Catholic Church. He was the President of the Oshawa Branch of Canadian Polish Congress for many years. Jozef chaired the committee for sending clothing and medical supplies to Poland, he coordinated with Oshawa General Hospital to send medical equipment to Poland. He was the Chairman of Monetary Aid to Blind Children’s Home in Poland and personally visited the home to bring funds to them. Jozef was a member of the Polish Refugee Committee during the solidarity immigration of refugees to Canada. He was the President of General Sikorski Polish Veterans’ Association in Oshawa, the co-chair of the organizing group for the Polish Soccer League in Oshawa, was the President of the Oshawa Folk Arts Council and member for over 35 years and was very involved with Fiesta. Jozef organized fundraising for Italian earth quake disaster relief fund. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East Oshawa with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday June 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm.
