WARNICA, James Roy (Jim) – Lt. Col. Retired, Former Commanding Officer of The Ontario Regiment (RCAC), Retired from Duplate Canada Research Laboratory, WWII Flight Sergeant – Navigator / Bomber aboard Lancaster (RCAF), Former member of the Oshawa Curling Club. Jim passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veteran’s Hospital on Tuesday February 12, 2013, in his 91st year. Jim was born on October 12, 1922 in Callander, Ontario. He was the first son of Della (nee Lewis) and Roy Washington Warnica. Beloved husband of Jean Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Moore) for 69 years. Dear father of Wayne James (Gail), Richard John (deceased) (Cheryl (deceased) and Jen), and David Roy “Dave” (Dianne). Proud grandfather of Christian (Michelle), Nathan, Glenn (deceased), Cole and Ben and great grandfather of James and William “Billy”. Loving brother of Kenneth Ashford (Nita (deceased)). Jim enjoyed the company of his brother-in-law Dave Moore (June), and sisters-in-law Ruth Jones (Johnny (deceased)), Gertrude (deceased) and Mary Buck (Bob). Predeceased by his beloved friends Rrruff, Casey, Brandy, Lassie and Sparkey. Jim attended O’Neill C.V.I. in Oshawa where he commanded the Cadet Corp. Jim and Betty took great pleasure at the cabin on Baie Fine in Killarney Provincial Park. Jim was instrumental in developing the clear sight line used in plastic bottles and one of the first to work with microcircuitry. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the devoted staff of “L” wing at Sunnybrook Veteran’s Hospital. Resting at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, with Funeral Service at The Ontario Regiment (RCAC) (53 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa) on Monday February 18th at 3pm. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday February 17th from 2pm to 4pm and prior to the service on Monday February 18th from 12pm to 2pm. At a later date, a private family interment of ashes will take place in St. James Cemetery, Stroud.
