Olive King Obituary

King, Olive Alexandra – 22 March 2013 Olive Alexandra King (née Boyko) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22nd, 2013, in the company of her family. Olive will be greatly missed by Nicholas (Nick) her husband of 55 years, daughters Cathy (John), Lucille (David), son Robert (Suzanne), and grandchildren Bridget, Nathan, Renée and Eliot, along with her sister Jean Maga, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Ontario and Manitoba. After graduating in 1956 from St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in Toronto, Olive enjoyed a successful 39-year career at the Oshawa General Hospital (Lakeridge Health) as an O.R. nurse — a career that brought her pride and extreme satisfaction. Olive loved to travel and was in her element experiencing all of the sights, sounds and tastes that the world had to offer. What gave her the most joy, in recent years, were trips with her children and grandchildren to the south of France, the Umbria region of Italy, and to Punta Mita, Mexico. She was thoughtful about bringing back treasures for family and friends from her excursions, and sharing stories of her adventures. As anyone who knew Olive will attest, she had a fondness for shopping and loved the thrill of finding a great deal. Olive was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to attend any occasion or event to which she was invited, including school concerts, performances, graduations, sporting events and celebrations. She took great joy in surrounding herself with family and friends, often organizing gatherings and preparing feasts from her extensive repertoire of gourmet recipes, in particular those from her Ukrainian heritage. She was a force to be reckoned with in any project she tackled! Olive will live on forever in the hearts and minds of her family, friends and all who knew her as a strong, outspoken, graceful and extremely generous person who had a zest for life and an unforgettable fun loving spirit. She wanted the best for everyone around her and was never afraid to say what was in her heart. The family is grateful to all extended family and friends who provided love and support over the last year of Olive’s life. She departed this life as she lived it — in charge! Visitation will be at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street E., Oshawa, on Wednesday, March 27 at 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m., including prayers (Panachida) at 7:30 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, 42 Lviv Blvd., Oshawa, on Thursday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. George Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada (UCWLC) Branch 1 or 2, will be greatly appreciated.
