John Gallagher Obituary

John Gallagher April 11 1936 – April 21 2021 At Miramichi Lodge, Pembroke, ON. John is survived by his wife Helen who cared for him lovingly through his lengthy illness. The youngest of eight children, John was born on Anticosti Island, QC, to Edmund James and Mary Flora (McKeever) Gallagher and grew up in Montreal and St. Bruno, QC. He is predeceased by siblings Michael, Terry, Eileen, Joe, Patricia, and Danny and will be sadly missed by his sister Margaret and many nieces and nephews to whom he was a mentor, jokester, and friend. John was a skilled mechanic and was very proud to have started his career serving as an aircraft mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He spent his life servicing printing presses all across Canada and the United States, putting many miles on many cars for work and pleasure. John loved a road trip, and left indelible memories of long drives with camping, coffee, and country music. As a speaker and storyteller, John could hold a room full of people with a well-crafted anecdotebeforeslaying themwith a joke. He loved to laugh, and enjoyed a good movie, a great book, and watching cartoons with kids. He identified with the hapless Wiley E. Coyote all his life – a guy who could never catch a break, but who never stopped trying. John lived a big life and touched many people with his warmth, charm, and humour. After his beloved wife Joyce died, he charmed Helen all the way from Australia. He will be remembered by the children of his first marriage with Beverley --John (Daney), Erin (Jim), David (Laurie), Eileen (Wayne), and Kathryn (Guy) --by Joyce’s children David (Julie), Ann Marie (Brad), Cathy (Donnie) and Brenda (Michael), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many thanks to the wonderful staff of Miramichi Lodge for their diligent care and kindness. John will be remembered in a small ceremony in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to MADD Canada or a charity that reminds you of John. Arrangements entrusted to the Murphy Funeral Home Pembroke.
