Amy Georgina Milburn Obituary

Obituary of Amy Georgina Milburn Milburn, Amy Georgina (Curtis) March 18, 1931 – August 20, 2019 In her 89th year, passed peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC). Predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Amy Curtis, her sisters Mary (Bryan), Joanne (Nicholls), and Ellen (Vike), and her beloved husband Donald James Milburn. Amy leaves behind her son Tom (Tania), daughter Jane, grandchildren Adam and Sophie, and brother Bruce Curtis (Sharon), along with many nieces and nephews. A lifelong resident of Peterborough, Amy always had fond memories of growing up in East City and her later life on a dairy farm in Smith Township. After her husband’s death, she moved to a bungalow in Smith, then later to her condo on Whitaker Street, before spending her final months at Princess Gardens. Amy was a teacher for many years at Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Fairview, and Queen Elizabeth elementary schools in Peterborough. In later years, she followed in her mother’s footsteps and became the Elections Canada Returning Officer for Peterborough federal riding, receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 for her service to Elections Canada for more than three decades. She also greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Bridgenorth Library for many years, and supporting PRHC and Trent University. A proud member of the St. Luke’s Anglican Church congregation, Amy was a valued volunteer and worked hard to help stop attempts to close the church in recent years. In her free time, she loved gardening, travel, and spending time with family and friends. Amy’s family is grateful to her family doctor of many years, Dr. Elizabeth Messervey and her staff, the PSWs and staff at Princess Gardens, and the doctors and nurses of the palliative care unit at PRHC. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. This will be followed by a celebration of life on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 12 noon at St. Luke’s Anglican, 566 Armour Road, Peterborough, with reception to follow. In memory of Amy, donations to PRHC would be welcome. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Amy Milburn, please visit Tribute Store
