Anthony Jardine Macdonald

Obituary of Anthony Jardine Macdonald Macdonald, Anthony Jardine (Tony) On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, Tony, aged 67, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Tony's childhood was spent in Ontario but following high school, he ventured further to attend Michigan State University. Here he met the love of his life, Patricia (Patty) Hieronymus. Early in their journey, they found their paradise on Stony Lake where they bought a cottage on Fairie Lake Island before purchasing a home. People thought they were crazy. Yet, that one, impulsive decision gave them the life they shared for close to 45 years. Tony loved nothing more than fishing in the early mornings accompanied by his dogs, most recently, Henri and Millie. Unless it was winning the Scrabble socks at the conclusion of a hot game in the gazebo or sitting on the dock at the end of the day watching the world float by and calling to the loons. Following a successful career in advertising and numerous entrepreneurial ventures, Tony and Patty decided to retire to Bridgenorth when he was diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia). Tony joined the faculty at Fleming College in Peterborough and, for 3 years, loved mentoring his marketing students and working with community partners to provide opportunities for them to apply their knowledge on real projects that benefited the community and consolidated their learning. An avid golfer, he spent many hours on the links at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club with the Hotpoint's and others who all became close friends. When the snow began to fall, he loved reading, connecting with friends on Facetime, commenting on world events on Facebook, cross-country skiing and coaching his curling friends from behind the glass. Tony will always be remembered for his love of art, classical music, good food and wine, as well as a nearly obsessive passion for his Michigan State Spartans on the basketball court and football field. Tony is survived by Patty along with his brother Tim, his son Bill, his nieces Masami and Anna, his nephews Jack and Kazumi, John and Laura his brother and sister in-law and Patty's parents Jack and Florence. He will be remembered often and fondly by those whose lives he touched with his generosity, kindness, intellect and love of life. He was a true friend. His sudden passing has left us shocked and saddened, but relieved that he didn't suffer and left with a full and grateful heart for the life he lived and shared with us; one filled with so many gifts and blessings. To the doctors and nurses who helped Tony manage his leukemia and live a full and rich life for so many years, our thanks. To the medical care teams at PHRC, your dedication, compassion, and caring allowed us to meet the challenges of the last two weeks with hope and to lovingly say goodbye. A celebration of his life will be planned. Specific details will be posted at www.CommuntiyAlternative.ca where you may add a condolence, pictures and make a donation to the Friends of Fraser Wetlands or The Kawartha Land Trust in Tony's name.
