Audrey Bernice Slater Obituary

Obituary of Audrey Bernice Slater SLATER, Audrey Bernice Passed away peacefully on March 24, 2020 following a heart attack, at the age of 89. Beloved wife to George for 64 years, and mother to Dan Slater (predeceased), Scott Slater (Wendy), Lori Steiner (David) and Julie Slater (predeceased). Grandmother to Jeff (Brian), Kevin (Diana), Allison (Brandan), Liane (Tyler), Emma and Kelly. Great grandmother to Valentina. Loving sister to Lillian Fisher, and sister in law to predeceased - James Fisher, Thirza and Bill Waters. Aunt to Brian Fisher (Anna), Walter Fisher, Bill Waters (Bonnie) and Al Waters (Michele) and their families. Audrey was an extraordinary person. She was a talented seamstress making everything from Couples Club show costumes for many years, to extraordinary Halloween costumes, to special occasion dresses – like Easter, first communion and even wedding dresses for Elaine, Dale, Lori and Shari. She excelled with finances and did all the book keeping for the small business that Audrey and George ran successfully in Toronto for over 30 years. She was an amazing baker, especially known for cookies and fudge. She loved to play games and cards. She always had her sixdecks ready for “hands and feet” and her small bag of change ready for “chase the ace”. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed her weekly games with the Parkway Ladies bowling team. She also enjoyed her trips to the casino and loved the excitement of the slots, even if she didn’t win much. And enjoyed a glass or two of wine, whether on the cottage dock, at gathering with family and friends, or just relaxing at home. But most of all, she was the kindest, most generous, loving person, who always made time for others. Her family was her life and we shared so many great times with her. She was always interested in everyone’s life – both the small day to day and the large events. She was a lifelong friend to so many. She was the best wife, sister, mom, grandma and aunt ever, setting a great example of unconditional love and care. Her sudden passing has left us all feeling heartbroken and wishing for one more big hug and I love you. As per her wishes, she will be cremated and we will plan a celebration of her life once it is safe to gather together again. If you wish, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.
