Obituary
Obituary of Charles Groome CHARLES "Uncle Charlie" W. GROOME, of Peterborough, known for his social generosity and playful mischievous wit, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday evening at his home. He was 76. Leaving behind son Chris (Jane), daughters Angela Borysenko and Michelle Cook and 5 grandchildren to join son Michael. Brother to Rosie Savich and Donna Strong. His many friends would contend that his self-described "million dollar personality" and fearless social spirit made him a character people gravitated to — and he reached out to all, giving special attention to those less fortunate. From ridiculous to stylish, he chose his hat for the day from his incredible stash, fashioned with whimsy simply to engage others, a clever tool to disarm people and get them talking. A former tool and die maker, real estate and insurance rep, flower wholesaler, farmer, naturalist, art lover, piano and accordion player and unofficial Mayor of WalMart — retired, but an active stock market investor — and forever a salesman. He will be hugely missed. The following services will be held at SHRINE CLUB, 1757 Sherbrooke Street West (at Brealey Dr.), Peterborough: Visitation Monday November 8, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm; and short service to celebrate his life, Tuesday, November 9, at 1pm with a reception afterwards. If desired, directions to the Shrine Club, and donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association may be made at www.CommunityAlternative.ca or by calling the funeral home at 705-742-1875.
