Elaine Marion Correll Obituary

Elaine Marion Correll, nee Darker It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Elaine Correll. Elaine passed peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital on July 11, 2020. Elaine was raised in St. Catharine’s, Ontario with her sister Katherine Darker (Russell). She obtained a degree from the University of Toronto in Physiotherapy in 1949. Following graduation, she enthusiastically traveled Europe for three months and then chose Peterborough as her home, wherein she began her physio career at Peterborough Civic Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she continued to work as a physiotherapist throughout the Peterborough area with Home Care. Soon after relocating to Peterborough, she met and married a young golf enthusiast named Herb Correll. Together they built a home and started a family. They enjoyed many years of square dancing, golfing, playing bridge and socializing with their wide network of friends. Elaine had a passion for the outdoors and travel. She enjoyed her summers camping with her young children and travelling across Canada. Her fondest memories were of summers spent at Bon Echo Provincial Park with her family and friends. In 1974, she set out to find a family cottage as a place that her children and grandchildren would return to over the years to make new memories. After canoeing many of the Kawartha lakes, with Herb in tow, she in true Elaine spirit, found the ideal location for a family cottage on Lake Kasshabog. The cottage became the mecca for visiting with friends and family and also led to many new friendships on the lake. In her retirement years, she combined her love of travel and camping by spending the winters touring North America with Herb. These travels and the places and friends they met along the way, were some of her fondest memories. Elaine was known as an exceptional hostess, cook and baker. Along with Herb they hosted many memorable dinner and dance parties at their home. Elaine was a truly creative person with a passion for music, theatre, gardening and sewing. She and Herb attended local theatre on a regular basis and enjoyed annual trips to Stratford and Niagara with friends to take in plays. In her later years, Elaine was blessed with six grandchildren. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren and was proud of all of their accomplishments. In 2014, Elaine relocated to Ottawa, Ontario where she resided at Orchard Walk Retirement Community, so that she could be closer to family. She was blessed with a beautiful home at Orchard Walk and most importantly, excellent care. Her family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the kindness and care she received while living there. Elaine will be missed by her children, grandchildren and many friends. We wish to thank everyone for the support we have received during this difficult time.
