Obituary of Garry Robert Humphreys HUMPHREYS, Dr. Garry Robert (Retired Medical Officer of Health for Peterborough City and County. Retired Lt.-Col. Canadian Forces. Retired Vice-President in charge of clinical trials at Connaught Laboratories). Passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13th, 2019 at Hospice Peterborough in his 83th year. Husband of Eleanor (nee DeLong) of 53 years. Survived by his son Brian (wife Jung-Ae) of Etobicoke. Brother of Jack Humphreys of Maple and Madge Cooper of Burlington. Garry will be remembered by his nephews Jamie, Andrew and William. Garry was proud of his work with the Peterborough Health Unit and helped Peterborough to become the second city in Ontario to be smoke-free in public places. He led the way for same day cataract surgery as well as bringing nurse practitioners to Peterborough city and county. He also partnered with Curve Lake First Nation on public health issues. Garry was past President of the Peterborough Medical Society and Peterborough Rotary Club, and was a committee member of Ontario College of Teachers of seven years. A visitation will be held at ASHBURNHAM FUNERAL HOME (840 Amour Road, Peterborough) on Wednesday December 18th, 2019 from 2:00- 4:00 PM and from 7:00- 9:00 PM. A private family service and internment will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to Hospice Peterborough or a charity of one’s choice through the funeral home or online.
