Gerald Downie

Obituary of Gerald Downie DOWNIE, Gerald “Gerry” P.Eng. – Peacefully, at Fairhaven Home, with his family, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Hilary for 51 years. Dear father of Katie, Sarah and Emily (Dan Clarke). Loving Grandpa of Alexa, Emma, Liam, Ella and Mansley. Brother of Jim (Judith) of Dover, England. An enormously kind and patient man, Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends and neighbours from his many years in Peterborough. He retired from GE after over 30 years of work, with many colleagues who became his close friends. A bird lover and paddler, Gerry had numerous hobbies, and was fond of inventing, discovering and exploring. He enjoyed the outdoors and had a zest for life. An informal gathering of friends, relatives and neighbours to celebrate Gerry’s life will be held at the ASHBURNHAM FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 840 Armour Road, on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 1-3 pm, with words of remembrance at 2 pm. Online condolences and donations to the Parkinson Society of Canada, the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) or Fairhaven Foundation may be made at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca. A warm thank you to the VON for their Adult Day Program, and to the staff at Fairhaven for their many kindnesses and consideration to Gerry and our family.
