Obituary of Hilda Lila Smith It is with sadness that our family announce the passing of our mother, Hilda Lila Stella Smith on the 16th day of February 2019, in Peterborough Ontario. Born in Centreville Digby Co. to Clarence and Mildred (Rowlett) Dukeshire she is survived by her daughters: Gail (James) White, Joan (Dwight) Johnson, Mary (Wally) Reaume and Cathy Smith. Sons: Gary (Sue) Smith and Stephen (Thuy) Smith. Mom is also survived by her grandchildren: Adrienne, Brent (Xiaoli), Lisa (Martin), Steve (Linda), Lee-Anne, Gregory, Chase (Elissa), Chad (Emerald), Kent, Marcy, Danielle (Thomas), Khoi and her three great grandchildren: Braden, Cameron and Devon. She is also survived by her brothers Victor Dukeshire, Arthur Dukeshire and Elwyn (Beverley) Dukeshire and her sister-in-law Katheline Smith. Mom was predeceased by her husband Paull Edmund Smith and by her brothers and sisters-in-law; Garth and Grace Dukeshire, Teddy Dukeshire, Floyd and Catherine Dukeshire and Sister and brother-in-law Flossie and Arthur Handspiker. Mom worked as a Medical Records Technologist in Yarmouth and Berwick until her retirement when she began to spend the winters in Winter Haven, Florida. There she met Gordon Cruse. They spent many happy years travelling from her new home in Ontario to Florida playing golf, going on cruises and visiting many new places. Mom loved to do needlepoint, knit and crochet; passing along her many keepsakes to her children. Our family extends our very special thanks to the wonderful staff, in the Riverside Special Care Unit at Fairhaven Home in Peterborough, Ontario, for being so kind and taking such great care of our Mom. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ashburnham Funeral Home, Peterborough, Ontario. Burial is at a later date in the Chegoggin Cemetery, Chegoggin, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Society, the North Chegoggin Baptist Church Cemetery, Yarmouth Nova Scotia, or society/charity of your choice
