James Christy

Obituary of James Christy It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Jim Christy on March 22, 2010, as a result of complications from advanced Parkinson's disease. He was married to our mother, Helen, for 62 years, served his country in time of war, and was grateful for the life his parents gave him in this country. Jim grew up as part of the Macedonian community in Toronto. He joined the RCAF at Trenton in 1943, serving as a bombardier, and was discharged at the war's end after rising to the rank of sergeant. He married the love of his life, Helen, in 1948 and they raised four children, Cheryl, Lori, Craig and Cindy in Don Mills, leaving Toronto in 1968 for Newmarket, and later raised quarter horses and Standardbreds. In 1986, he retired to his beloved Sandy Lake, near Buckhorn, and with Helen by his side, enjoyed every day on this beautiful lake, until Parkinson's slowed Dad down, and eventually took him away from us. Son of the late Peter and Alexandra Christy, he is survived by his sister Virginia of Peterborough. Jim leaves his wife Helen and their four children Cheryl, Lori, and Cindy (Keith) of Peterborough and Craig (Hazel) of Kelowna, BC; his grandchildren: Lauren (Steve), Justin, Jessica (Jeff), Rachel, Michael, Jenny, Alex, Jenna, Rhiannon; and one great grandchild: Hailey The sun is setting and the lake is calm. We know Dad will be out there one more time trying to land the big one. Donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation of Canada for Parkinson's Research. Although our Dad suffered with Parkinson's for nearly 30 years, we never heard him complain. He'd say "I don't have it bad. Now that kid…. He's got it bad". Thank you for your support. Support for the RCAF historical museum at CFB Trenton would also be appreciated.
