John Michael Cavanagh Obituary

Obituary of John Michael Cavanagh Cavanagh, John Michael – On Saturday September 8th, John Cavanagh, a gracious father, grandfather, husband, and friend, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at Centennial Place, Millbrook. John was born in Peterborough June 24th, 1931, to Thomas and Alice Cavanagh. He grew up with his brother Tom (Rosemary) Cavanagh and sister Joan (late John) Sherwood. Throughout his career John owned T.J. Cavanagh Appliances, a successful multi-generational family business for 77 years. John was the loving husband of Marjorie and together they raised Karen Cavanagh (late James Simms), Brenda (Malcolm) Dean, and Stephen (Donna) Cavanagh. John was a kind and caring grandfather to Keary, Jeremy, Tori, Jake and Kaitlin. As a positive role model, John supported and encouraged both his children and grandchildren in everything they chose to do. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Lighthearted and full of humour, John always made family gatherings a joyous occasion. John (TJ) was an avid hockey fan. Throughout his life, he played on many hockey teams as a goalie, most notably the World Famous Hotpoints Oldtimers Hockey Team. In his spare time John loved to birdwatch and was able to name many local birds by their call alone. His favourite bird of all was the Kingfisher. With a passion for giving back to the public, John sponsored community projects and local hockey teams. In his 88th year John passed away, but his loving character will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road on Thursday, September 20th from 5-8 pm. A chapel service and celebration of John's life will take place at 11am on Friday September 21st at the funeral home. Private inurnment to take place at a later date. A very special thank you to the staff at Centennial Place for their loving care and compassion.
