Joyce Young Obituary

Obituary of Joyce Young YOUNG, Joyce (nee Hyde) It is with sorrow her family announces the death of Joyce Young on Thursday, November 20, 2008. Loving and devoted wife of the late Jack Young (deceased 1994). A long-time resident of Peterborough and an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mourning her passing are her sons, John (Jane) of Pickering, Bob (Corinne) of Peterborough, and Gary (Margaret) of Newcastle. Cherished Nana to her grandchildren Tim, Jennifer, Rebecca, Marnie and Meredith, and lovingly remembered by her 9 great-grandchildren. Her loss will be felt deeply by her sister-in-law, Evelyn Buehrer of Florida, her former daughters-in-law and her nieces and nephews in Canada, the USA, and England as well as a host of treasured friends. Born in London, England on August 27, 1920 Joyce was a child of the depression, a survivor of the Blitz and one of the thousands of Canadian war brides who contributed so immeasurably to Canadian society after World War II. She was the main family provider for many years due to the chronic illness of her beloved husband Jack, for whom she was a constant and tireless mainstay. In addition to that she raised three sons, a full time job in itself. Joyce was an employee of Outboard Marine until her retirement in 1985. After retirement she and Jack were able to travel extensively, including a most happy journey back to her native England. She also became a very active participant in the Canadian War Brides Association. Frugal when it came to herself, she was always very generous to others. In her later years Joyce was beset by a number of health problems. The most vexatious, if not the most serious, was the painful aftermath from Shingles. If you so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Pain Society (905) 668-9545 www.canadianpainsociety.ca Friends will be received at COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 83 Hunter Street West, Peterborough on Saturday, November 22nd from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service to be held at ST.
