Maurice Rodney McCracken Obituary

Maurice Rodney McCracken June 12, 1933 – February 10, 2021 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maurice Rodney McCracken, beloved husband of Earlien (nee Loucks) for over 60 years, adored father of Wendyth (Harold), Wayde (deceased), David and Denise (Mark), proud grandfather to Kathleen, Connor (Michaela), Jackson (Elisabeth), Heather (Corey), Reilly, Matthew (Bonnie), Elias and Satchel, and great grandfather to our beautiful Finley, Marlow and Opie. Respected brother of the late Keith (Audrey), Joan (late Eugene), Barbara (late Kerry) and Brian (Marlene), and much loved brother-in-law of Cec (late Robert). Maurice was born and grew up on a farm north of Selby, Ontario. The bulk of his career was with Ontario Hydro, where he worked as a Control Technician at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. Though Maurice got much satisfaction from his work, his lifetime interests went well beyond. Maurice was an avid gardener, a home handyman extraordinaire, and a talented creator of large and small stained glass treasures. Always together, he and Earlien were avid travelers, square dancers, and active members of their church community. Maurice was a man of quiet faith, one that provided comfort and guidance throughout his life. With a ready sense of humour and genuine interest in others, Maurice made friends everywhere he went (with conversation being particularly easy when it turned to talk of life on the farm). Above all else, Maurice’s pride and joy was his family. There was nothing he liked better than being together, and the laughter of family stories shared around the table. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre GABU for their exceptional care of Dad during his time there, and their understanding support to each of us. The compassion and professionalism of the GABU staff during the past months are truly appreciated. Maurice’s legacy is one of love, integrity, service and compassion. His life blessed us all with gentle kindness, thoughtful guidance, and a wonderful example of life well lived. A celebration of Maurice’s life will be held when we can safely come together. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en) or to Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church (http://www.trinitystandrews.ca), Brighton, Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
