Olga Tyne Obituary

Obituary of Olga Tyne TYNE, Olga – It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Olga Tyne on August 18th, 2018. Olga was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario and is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Ted Tyne. Beloved mother of Bob (Hilary), Sue (Lorne), and Beth (Johnny). Proud grandmother of her “perfect” grandchildren, Allison, Julie (Hansel), Bethany (Ed), Ben, Dave (Zandalee), Kevin (Bernadine), Jay and Ravi; delighted great-grandmother of Cameron and Alex, and loved aunt to many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her parents, Michael Dernick and Amelia (Chorniuk), and sister Lucy Dawe and (Murray). A graduate of University of Toronto in Physical Education, she worked at the YMCA as a physical program director in St. Catharines for two years. After marrying Ted, she moved to Toronto and worked at the YMCA in Toronto and Etobicoke. In 1955 she and Ted built a house in Mississauga, which was their home for 50 years. She worked for Mississauga, in Parks and Recreation, who named a room in the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre “The Olga Tyne Room”, in recognition of her work in that field, retiring in 1987. She was also one of the founding board members of PLASP (Peel Lunch and After School Program) Child Care Services. Ted and Olga moved to Oakville in 2005, and subsequently to Peterborough to be closer to family. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Canterbury Gardens, 1414 Sherbrooke Street, Peterborough, on Sunday, September 16th. Buffet lunch at 1 pm, service at 2:30 pm. Online condolences may be made through www.CommunityAlternative.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
