Obituary of Quintin Carsell Quintin Leitch Carsell "Red" Born August 20, 1920 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Red passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011 one month shy of his 91st birthday. He will be sadly missed by his wife Florence (Floss) whom he would've been married to for 66 years on October 20th. He leaves behind his children Catherine, Maureen (Al), Michael, Nancy (Ken), Janice (Gary), 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sister Roberta Ballard and special friends Linus and Daisy Mae. Red was predeceased by his brother Dallas and granddaughter Lisa. Red served his country in WWII enlisting with the Seaforth Highlanders of Vancouver at the age of 18 with his brother Dallas. He was billeted in Toronto at the Automotive Building at the CNE grounds. It was while here that he met Florence roller skating at the Mutual Street Arena. He went overseas on May 10, 1940 and most of his time was spent in Italy as a medic. He fought in the Battle of Ortona known as the forgotten war. At the end of December in 1944 he returned to Vancouver before heading back to Toronto. Red and Florence married and raised their family in Toronto and later spent lots of time at their cottage on Lower Buckhorn Lake. He continued his work in the medical field for the next 9 years at the Old Christie Street Hospital and Sunnybrook Hospital that was built for the veterans. He then became an oil burner serviceman working for various people and then finally BA, Gulf and Petro Canada. He was well respected in this field and sought after for his expertise. Red was quite the character. He always had us on our toes with his teasing and antics! He was well read and very good with his hands. He built the house in Willowdale and the cottage which would eventually become their full time residence. Red was always there for his family and that was what he lived for. He was a Scotsman through and through. A private service to celebrate Red's life has been held.
