Ross Dickson Wiegand Peterborough, Ontario Obituary

Ross Dickson Wiegand

Obituary of Ross Dickson Wiegand Wiegand, Ross Dickson On August 15 at Hospice Peterborough, Ross left behind the cares of this world knowing he had the love and support of his family and large family of friends. Born in Galt, Ontario on May 8, 1936, Ross grew up in Welland, son of Eden and Laura Wiegand and big brother to Norman Gary. All of whom predeceased him. He attended Ryerson College and spent most of his working life in sales and advertising in Peterborough. He thoroughly enjoyed promoting tourism with the Kawartha Tourist Association. After 3 years of study Ross graduated from Trent University with a B.A. in the same month as his 50th birthday, one of his proudest achievements. Ross was a member of the Peterborough Motor Sports Club and enjoyed car racing on ice. He was also a scuba diver and member of the Peterborough Underwater Club. He participated in the annual Ice Floe Races from the beginning. Ross was a regular at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market along with at least 1 of our 6 dogs – who also predeceased him – Swarta, Gyllen, Topaz, Myles, Cloud and Diva, special companions all. In 1962 Ross married Margaret Cairns in Huntsville. They traveled far and wide and particularly enjoyed some exploration of every Canadian province. Ross was uncle to many, and this short poem was a collaborative, heart felt effort by those who love the memories of Uncle Ross: Our Ross: Gifted with special powers, he was no ordinary muggle. He held the bar very high, for he was the King of Uncles. Go cook up something special, food that really schmecks. Take our love and fly to that great kitchen in the sky. Special memories for Craig, Leanne, Robbie [2003] Jeff, Leslie, Chris, ChrisE, Jan, Karen, Lindsey, Eastland, Zoe, Gina, Glory, Gary, Darryl, Avalon, Lachlan, Brendan, Suzanne. A memorial service will be held in Peterborough on Friday August 30th at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1:00 p.m. at the Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough with reception to follow. Interment will be at Hutcheson Memorial, Huntsville in September. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice, YWCA women’s shelters, Big Brothers Big Sisters in your local area or any charity of your choice.
