Obituary of Sean Gallagher GALLAGHER, Sean Finbarr ("Finn") -- On Sunday, April 17, 2011 in his 80th year, having rallied for a final chat with his beloved family and treasured friends. Devoted husband of Gayle Hazel (nee Massie), and formerly of Eileen Belton (d.1991). Loving father of Maureen, fond father-in-law of Mehernosh Pestonji, and utterly besotted poppa of granddaughter Maeve. Son of the late Noreen Scriven and Daniel J. Gallagher. Survived by sisters Eithne (O'Brien) and Noreen, OSB, brother Brendan, nieces Elaine and Jacqueline O'Brien, nephews David and Paul Gallagher, grandnieces Kate Gallagher and Ella Carafa, and grandnephew Shane Gallagher. Professor Emeritus, Department of English Literature, Trent University, where he conveyed to his many students his passion for Shaw, Synge and recent Irish playwrights. He also served as Master of Otonabee College, President of the Association of the Teaching Staff, and Senior Tutor of Julian Blackburn College. In the Peterborough community he will be remembered for bringing Irish drama to the Peterborough Theatre Guild, where he directed and acted in many award-winning productions. He also served as president of the Peterborough Irish Canadian Club, the Peterborough Theatre Guild and the Peterborough Y Swim Club. Finn was elected to the executive committees of the Council of Ontario Universities, the Ontario Council of University Faculty Associations, and the Canadian Association of University Teachers. He also served a term as President of the Canadian Association for Irish Studies. A private family service will be followed by a public celebration of Finn's life (details to be announced). At Finn's request, memorial donations may be directed to the Finn and Eileen Gallagher Bursary Fund at Trent University or to a charity of your choice.
