Wallace John Henry Obituary

Wallace John Henry, passed away suddenly at home in Peterborough, ON, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, having recently celebrated his 85th birthday. Wally was born in Toronto to parents Cecil and Lola. In 1958, Wally graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Engineering Physics specializing in Thermodynamics (and a minor in Bridge, so he said). He was very proud of his experience working for AV Roe Canada working on the Iroquois engine for the Avro Arrow. During that time, he learned how to program the earliest Honeywell computers. After the Arrow was shut down, he joined Ontario Hydro to help with their new use of Honeywell computers. Following that and having worked with a few consulting companies including KCS and KPMG, he eventually branched out to create a series of owned and operated management consulting firms specializing in the areas of health care and transportation involving federal, provincial and municipal governments. Wally had a wide variety of interests and was an early adaptor of new technology. He carried on with his passion for wine making even after selling the self made vineyard that he and his wine making friends had established near Buckhorn. Many hours were spent with friends snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. Photography occupied many hours of his time. He loved taking the photos as well as developing them in his own dark room. Wally was a kind, caring man who was always up for a chat with anyone about almost any topic one could suggest. Wally, dearly beloved husband of Mary and loving father of Craig (Kathy), and Graham (Karen Shearer). Dear step-father of Allan (Catherine Donnelly), and Brian Green. Dear grandfather of Ryan, Jonathan and Kyle Henry. Brother of the late Glenn (surviving spouse Karen), and Roger (surviving spouse Sharon) Henry. Aquamation has taken place. Friends are invited to attend an online Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, February 20th at 11 a.m. Please register at www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca on Wally's obit page. If desired, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
