William O'Leary Obituary

Obituary of William O'Leary O'LEARY, William Noel (Bill) Our Dad, Bill O'Leary promised not to screw up his 90th birthday, Dec. 9/13 and Xmas. He kept his word and passed away late Friday afternoon Jan. 10, 2014 surrounded by family at Markham Stouffville Hospital. We were lucky to have him as long as we did. He was a character - charming, irascible, strongly opinionated, instigator, literate, an entertaining bull shooter, confrontational, combative, hilarious, loving, and cantankerous about his views on politics and the social system of Canada and feisty and current to the end. He served at 17 years old in World War ll in the British Royal Navy. He was torpedoed in the British channel and thankfully survived being in the water for over 5 hours so that we could all be here. We toasted him with bottles of Glenmorangie and The Singleton single malt late into the wee hours. He'd approve! We'll miss him and loved him. Predeceased by Mary (nee Thornton) his dear wife of 65 years. Dear father of Michael (Peggy), Kelly Renzoni and Shauna Laird (Ron). Poppa to Matthew, Megan and Alex Pattillo, Kaitlin O'Leary, Matthew, Daniel Renzoni and Ronald Laird Jr. Pre-deceased by his 5 brothers and 1 sister. Last remaining child of the late Michael J. O'Leary VC (Canada's first Victoria Cross recipient WW l) and Greta Hegarty. Friends and family will be received at COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL HOME - ASHBURNHAM CHAPEL 840 Armour Road Friday January 17, 2014 between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. followed by a reception.
