Obituary of William Robert Merle Wagar


Wagar, William Robert “Merle” Suddenly passed away, on Friday, September 7, 2018, in Trent River, ON, with his family at his side. Merle formally of Campbellford and Kaladar, in his 84th year. Son of the late David Sylvester Wagar and Hazel Audrey Beatty. Brother of Audrey Bartlett (Lloyd) and the late Clifford and Clayton. Predeceed by wife Olive Marion (Simpson).


Loving father of Linda Heintzman (Dan), Lorie O’Halloran (Arthur Williams) and Brian Wagar (Irene). Grandfather and (great grandfather) to Ryan, Joanne (Charlotte and Vaughn Campbell), Lindsay Heintzman, Adam, Sharon, (Rory Graham), Matthew, Danielle, (Emma Marie O’Halloran), Jessica, Stuart, (Zach, Chayce Poulter), Andrew, Jen, (Olivia, Hunter, Abagal, Walker, Jasper O’Holloran), Summer and Autumn O’Holloran,

Beloved husband of Patsy (Doherty). Step father to Tim (Tabatha), Terry Rodgers (Becky), Jamie (Susan), Jeremy Rodgers (Danielle). Step grandfather to Bradley, Angelica, Dakota, Timothy, Huntley, Emma, Aubrey, and Jace.



Merle had a strong will and a fun character which attracted many adults and children, who admired him as a father figure, Mark and Kirk Mills, Candy, Denise, Melissa and the late David Snow. Friends and neighbours and their children, Debbie Ellis (Coveney) and Gwen Green Sharpe will all remember Merle.




A retired bus driver and auto body man in Campbellford, Merle was very appreciative of former students approaching him to say “Hello, do you remember me and our experiences on the bus?” He also enjoyed his work in Construction with Ambro Brothers, travelling and working around Northern Ontario. Merle enjoyed his retired days, and stayed busy driving his tractor and Suzi, in and around the woods, tours to the other side of the property, packing a lunch and cutting wood with the boys.




Cremation entrusted to Community Alternative Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Campbellford Legion, 34 Bridge Street West, on Saturday, October 13 2018, from 1 to 4 pm.
