Born February 11th, 1925. Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, October 17th, 2008 in his 84th year. Alan, beloved husband of 41 years to Dorothy Mary, and loving husband of Violet. Dear father of David (Sue), Carolyn Harrison, Barbara (Bill) Moore, Richard (Heather); grandchildren David (Carrie) Harrison, Christina (Aaron) Brooks, Kenny (Melina Martin) Harrison, and Kelson, Cathan, Caitlin, & Kelleagh Moore , and Bryce and Lindsay Seabright. Great grandfather of Kyle, Scott, Shawn, and Leah. Cherished by siblings, Olive (Victor) Simmonds, Wilf (Pat), Brian, and Anne (Brian) Smith in the UK; also missed by his extended family, Dale Noble (Clive), and John Newbury. Alan served collectively over 40 years as elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Ottawa and St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Peterborough. The choir and congregation of both churches will miss his rich bass voice and gentle spirit. He was a member, leader and official Scouter for Life of Scouts U.K. and Canada. Alan served in the British Army, and was a Retiree of Computing Devices of Canada. His service to the community included: Past Master of Eddy Lodge #41 AF&AM Hull PQ, Affiliated Corinthian Lodge #101 Peterborough, Past Grand 1st Principal, Royal Arch Masons PQ, Allied Masonic Degrees, Ottawa Conclave #1 OSM, Order of the High Priesthood, St. Justin’s #18 Knights of Red Cross of Constantine, Ottawa Preceptory, Past Patron of Shawville; Chapter #50, and Order of the Eastern Star, P.Q. There will be no visitation. A Masonic Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21st at ST. GILES PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 785 Park Street South, Peterborough. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment Service will be held at Ottawa at Capital Memorial Gardens on Thursday, October 30th, at 1:00 p.m. If desired, condolences to the family, directions to the services, and donations in Alan’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Autism Society Ontario may be made at www.CommunityAlternative.ca or by calling COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL HOME at 705-742-1875. The family extends deep appreciation to the care and concern given by Dr. Shannon and the staff of B3 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
